2018 Process-based artwork - Icy Sea and Plastic
As you can imagine, the lifespan of this work is very short; it is more akin to a performance. The experience serves as a metaphor for the parallel between our bodies and the sea: as the block of sea water I have frozen melts, pieces of plastic remain.
Given that we ‘consume’ plastic, some of it will remain of us too...
“Glaciers are the planet’s hard disks,
the memory of a specific historical moment.
i have ‘frozen’ the sea and extracted
blocks that also constitute a memory of us,
of our current behaviour.
We come from the water and we feed on the sea, so probably,
of the transitory nature of our lives, of our bodies,
perhaps what will remain above all is plastic?”
